Games: Chrono Trigger Ressurection RIP

For those of you who dont recall, this is an ambitious remake project instigated by fans of the legendary SNES classic, Chrono Trigger. Originally set to include 12 different scenes from the original game, using high quality graphics and sound, this one turned quite a few heads. Unfortunately, the project seems to have turned one head too many, as Square Enix, despite originally showing no signs of retalliation, have finally decided to take legal action.
I dont know what Square Enix's motives were, but looking on the positive side, the decision may be indicating that they intend to do something with the Chrono Trigger name themselves at some stage (be it a remake, or another sequel). Their actions would be justified if this were the case, and im hoping that they do make use of their rights, giving the fans of Chrono Trigger what they were originally wanting from this project.

Heh. Looking on the negative side, maybe it's just Square being a dick. We have a proverb in Spanish that roughly translates to "Think bad and you'll be right".

My image of Square Enix is down 20% (Shion, I need to have secks with j00 [img]tongue.gif[/img] ); I'll forgive this if I see a new Chrono Trigger game, but I don't think that'll happen.

IRT Dreamer - Well, if you dont mind going retro, with 2D graphics and such, then by all means give Chrono Trigger a shot. Its out on the SNES and has been recently ported to the Playstation (america only, im afraid). Worth checking out.

IRT Wiseman - From our position here as consumer's, we'll never know until Square Enix confirms it. There has been a fair share of rumours regarding a remake of the title for the PSP, which would be a good move for Square Enix, but as speculation, its nothing truly substantial. As for my perception of Square Enix, this doesnt drag them down by much; in the great scale of business decisions, other companies have done worse. What is currently lowering my respect for the company is their inability to produce a fun game with a decent story, ever since the merger.

To cut a long story short, they've not only banned the selling of mod chips, as originally announced, but they've also prohibited the implementation and general use of them in the UK. Spain and Italy are exceptions to the rule within europe, where their courts threw Sony's case out, claiming that its up to the owners of a console to decide what to do with it.

From my position in the UK, i can only buy mod-chips from the afore-mentioned countries if i want to play imports. However, getting it fitted will be a completely different matter altogether, since i'll have to pay high cross-nation shipping charges to get a professional and safe chipping service on my PS2. Its a real shame, because me and Xhell are desperate to play Xenosaga, due to the fustratingly noticable lack in decent RPG's for the last year.

On the plus side, SCEI are at least making awesome, yet underrated games, like Ico, which is one of the most graphically remarkable games on the PS2. Yesterday, the team behind this game announced their second and third projects, "Wanda and the Colossus" and "Genji", both of which i have high hopes for.

Yeah, and they made me much angrier than this, to the point I would mention every director's mother. Sadly, stupidity is not hard to find among videogame companies; I don't know why, but perhaps it's because it's an emergent, yet very competitive market and one of the first to experience globalization. But honestly, I've got the feeling that western companies in other sectors are much smarter than Japanese videogame companies; the later are such a source for stupidity, while the former would convince an alien to buy their products and seek partnership with him/her to sell them in his/her planet as well. Why can't Japanese videogame companies be that aggressive, smart, and global, I still wonder. And why are they so used to undermine every fan-made effort of free marketing like this; I'm fairly sure if Square-Enix were a western company, they would have given away conceptual art and maybe even announced it in their website, since such events end up being a source of money, as it makes the game, saga, and company more popular, and are good for the market health as a whole. I don't know how things are in other sectors, but perhaps the reason why Japan has been in a slow recession over the past decade is that they are somewhat failing to adapt, or not adapting so good, to today's global markets (perhaps this has something to do with their formerly closed culture).

OMG, what a bunch of sons of bitches, I hope their sales go down because of this. Fuckers, this is actually good, I was starting to forget how miserable they are and how much do they stink, being happy with the games and all. My image of sony down 40%, now close to scorn again.

Those bastards think when you buy shit from them you make a pact with the devil and cannot excercise your personal, rightful freedom on your personal, private property. They should move to North Korea or Cuba, they'd feel at home. Heh, it was liberal economy what allowed them to grow as a huge corporation and make lots of money, and now they backstab it like this. And as usual, the European Union sucks big, greasy, oozy, veiny cocks and is absolutely useless. Instead of using its position to defend our principles and fight against abusive practices, they help them. Every day I'm more displeased with the EU. So worthless.

At times like this I'm so proud of my country, lol. Perhaps Spain should exit the EU, I don't want to be involved with this French piece of shit which is French anyways so why are we helping them.


So, can you mail consoles to some Spanish business that will chip them and send them back for you? Or what's better, import Spanish, Italian, or Japanese ones that come already chipped? This option would be cheaper as you only pay mail once; also consider PS2s are cheaper in Spain so it might not be too expensive.

Count on me for helping on this; I can ask at my local underground community for stores that will ship chipped PS2s to other countries, and I'll translate any website and terms of service for you if necessary.

That truely is a shame. I find it a bit annoying too that all that brillant work has to be abandoned. Truly, those are the best graphics i've seen for a game.

At least these people are gonna get very good jobs in the industry thanks to this.

heh reminds me of x-assault, they were just about to release the latest version when marvel decided the freeware game with no real graphics "unfairly competed," with what i can't imagine. it kicked x-men legends ass in terms of it's roster and thats about it. there are other unnoficial chrono trigger sequels, just a matter of whether the developers give up/square enix take notice.
